Worried patients might have found a lump, pain, nipple discharge or have a concern of family history. We can provide a quick diagnosis and onwards management. We can see and treat all breast problems. The large majority of patients seen in the clinic have healthy breasts and are reassured with benign findings.

The Appointment
- A patient will enquire and an appointment arranged at a convenient time
- The consultation will be with your surgeon and breast care nurse who will also support
- Full medical history discussed and examination carried out
- If further investigations are required you will be referred to the imaging department for either mammogram, ultrasound or both, performed on the same day.
- If concerns are noted on the imaging, a biopsy can be carried out at the same time.
Follow up
- If a biopsy is taken, an appointment is made for the biopsy results as soon as the result is available, usually within a week
- Breast care nurse will be available for advice or emotional support throughout the pathway.
- Should it be required, a further consultation will be offered to discuss findings and onwards management/treatment
When should women have mammograms and how often?
Breast screening programme in the UK recommends 3 yearly mammograms after the age of 50 but some patients may require more intensive screening if they have a higher risk or strong family history.
